What's a Den and a Pack?
A den is a group of Scouts who are in the same grade. They work together to advance to the next level of Cub Scouts. A PACK is the collection of the DENS.
When do the Pack and Den meet?
The Pack meets once a month on the third Thursday of each month. Each Pack Meeting has a theme with activities and/or speakers. Scouts raise the flag and present their colors, and receive their advancement belt loops.
Dens meet at the discretion of the Den Leader. Typically Dens meet once a month. Your Den Leader will communicate the time and place of the meeting.
Does my Scout have to go to everything?
It is not required that your scout attend every event. We understand that scouts have busy schedules. However, you'll find that your scout will WANT to attend each event!
Do I have to buy the whole uniform?
Pack 1753 is a “waist-up” unit, so you only need a uniform shirt, neckerchief/slide, and belt (awards go onto the belt so a necessity). This will all run ~$120. You may go to the National Capital Scout Shop 9190 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, MD 20814 OR order online at https://www.scoutshop.org/cub-scout-collection. We recommend going to the store. The folks in the store can assist you in selecting the right uniform, patches, and accoutrements for your Scout.
Pro tip: buy your shirt in a larger size so your child can use it for several years
Can I attend the meeting with my Scout?
Yes! In fact, we encourage it. Parents and siblings attend Pack and Den meetings and find that they benefit from being a Scout family member. It's fun for the whole family!
Are there ways for me to volunteer if I'm not the Den Leader?
We encourage all parents to volunteer. We need your help to make all the activities fun and meaningful to your child. There are a variety of events and advancement activities in which parents can become involved. We also encourage all parents to complete the Youth Prevention Training (YPT.) We need two adults who have completed the YPT training for each campout.
